Basketball Frenzy Hits Indonesia: B.LEAGUE Management Base Asia and B.LEAGUE Hope Asia Jr. Clinic Jakarta with IBL Unite for a Slam Dunk Event
B.LEAGUE and IBL Collaborate to Promote Basketball in Indonesia
The Japan Professional Basketball League (B.LEAGUE) and the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) have partnered to promote basketball in Indonesia. As part of this agreement, B.LEAGUE held two events in Jakarta, Indonesia: the “B.LEAGUE Management Base Asia with IBL” and the “B.LEAGUE Hope Asia Jr. Clinic Jakarta with IBL.”
B.LEAGUE Management Base Asia with IBL
This workshop was held on August 30th, with the aim of sharing B.LEAGUE’s knowledge with IBL owners and staff. The workshop was divided into two sessions: one for club owners and one for club managers. The sessions covered topics such as expanding fan bases, revenue management, and customer attraction. EY Japan also participated in the workshop, explaining the sports business model in Japan and the importance of revenue growth. A total of 42 IBL-related individuals from all 14 clubs attended the workshop.
Participant Comments
IBL club owners who participated in the session shared their thoughts on the workshop:
“I wanted to learn why the top league in Asia has developed in such a short period of time and what each club values in terms of management and attracting fans. By participating in the workshop, I was able to understand that it is possible to steadily make a profit by managing a basketball club. I also learned about the importance of acquiring fans and the cycle of monetization.”
“This season was the first home-and-away tournament, so we focused on running it. From next season onwards, we want to focus on sales. At the moment, building an arena is a bit of a challenge, but we want to make progress little by little so that we can get approval from the local government.”
B.LEAGUE Hope Asia Jr. Clinic Jakarta with IBL
The next day, B.LEAGUE held the “B.LEAGUE Hope Asia Jr. Clinic Jakarta with IBL.” This event consisted of three clinics: Coaches Clinic, Kids Clinic, and Parents Clinic. The total number of participants was about 115.
At the coaches’ clinic, coaches explained the importance of developing grassroots players and shared on-court techniques. At the kids’ clinic, players practiced basic techniques and played a shooting game in a team match. At the parents’ clinic, coaches explained how to encourage their children before, during, and after games, as well as how to support their daily practice.

Participant Comments
Coach Clinic Participants shared their thoughts on the clinic:
“I learned how important it is not just skills, but also the energy that comes from within. I also want to cherish how I treat children and how I make them love basketball. I want us to work together to make basketball more popular.”
Kids Clinic Participants shared their thoughts on the clinic:
“It was really fun to actually meet a professional player and have him teach me. Although it’s only been a short time since I started playing basketball, I’m starting to like it more and more. I want to work hard at practice so that I can use what I’ve learned from my coach in future games.”
Parent Clinic Participants shared their thoughts on the clinic:
“I am grateful for this opportunity. Unlike a regular clinic, this clinic was also for parents, so I learned a lot. I will continue to do my best to provide the support that children want.”
Comments from Participating Players
Abraham Damar Grahita, who participated in the clinic, shared his thoughts:
“I would like to thank IBL and B.LEAGUE for giving me this opportunity. I was able to play in B3 in the 2022-23 season, so I am very happy to have been able to do this kind of activity with B.LEAGUE in Jakarta. I was able to actually interact with the children and get energy from them. I also hold clinics myself, but I thought that the coach clinic and parent clinic were very unique.”
Yudha Saputera, who participated in the clinic, shared his thoughts:
“I remembered when I was about this age. The children who participated were better than I was. I hope that in this day and age, they can learn skills and become good at it by using social media, and become professional players.”
Coach’s Comment
Coach Carlos Barroca, who led the clinic, shared his thoughts:
“During my time in the NBA, I worked with both the B.LEAGUE and the IBL, and I’m happy to be able to work with them again in Asia. This time, in addition to the regular clinics, I think it’s important to have a parent clinic as well. Indonesian parents have a culture of being 100% committed to what their children want to do and supporting them as a family. I want to be able to guide the children in a positive direction. I hope I can contribute to spreading basketball in Asia even more.”
