Zaragoza, Spain – Saturday, February 21, 2026, saw a significant turnout as Jorge Jiménez, the current artist behind DC Comics’ Batman, held a signing at Milcomics.com. Fans began assembling an hour before the event, eager to secure a spot in line and a memento from the acclaimed artist.

“I was signing in Zaragoza, precisely at this same place, years ago, and I really wanted to repeat the experience; I wanted to come back and feel the response from the people here again,” Jiménez reportedly said, smiling, just before meeting his readers. The signing marked the beginning of his Spanish tour.

The event coincides with a pivotal moment for the Dark Knight, as DC Comics launches a new editorial phase under the ‘All In’ initiative. This relaunch aims to strengthen its iconic characters with established creative teams and approaches designed to attract both longtime readers and new audiences. The current run, spearheaded by writer Matt Fraction, blends urban thriller elements with psychological exploration, focusing on Bruce Wayne’s detective skills and the perpetually tense atmosphere of Gotham City.

Jiménez’s involvement is particularly noteworthy given the historic success of the new Batman title. The first issue has reportedly surpassed half a million copies sold in the United States alone, marking a significant achievement for the series and the creative team.

For Jiménez, taking on the relaunch with a new number one issue presented both “excitement, and pressure.” “That DC has trusted me with this project is a real privilege,” he stated, adding that “bringing a character like Batman to life carries a great responsibility. It’s one of DC’s flagship series and you have to try to live up to it, but also be able to enjoy the process.”

The new era of Batman, considered the superhero with the longest continuous editorial history, represents a historic revitalization for the series – its fourth major reboot, a milestone achieved only a handful of times. The success is also a testament to the growing recognition of Spanish talent within the American comic book industry. “Currently, Spanish artists are highly valued. There is a very high level and it is a pride to be part of that generation that is working at the forefront,” Jiménez commented.

Jiménez, who transitioned to comics after studying Physical Education, acknowledged he never anticipated reaching his current level of success. “I stopped everything and started drawing like when I was a kid. I never would have imagined things would turn out like this.”

Beyond the narrative and artistic shifts, the new Batman run introduces visual changes, notably the return of the classic blue in Batman’s costume and a brighter depiction of Gotham. Jiménez explained the intention is to introduce nuance in a cultural landscape often dominated by darkness: “If even Batman can bring some color, it can be a positive note.”

In scenes demanding greater psychological depth, Jiménez emphasizes the “acting” of the characters, carefully considering their expressions, lighting, and composition to immerse the reader “almost unconsciously” in the story. His portfolio extends beyond Batman to include work on Superman and the Justice League, solidifying his position as a leading Spanish artist on the international stage.

Gonzalo González, the owner of MilCómics, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting Jiménez, stating, “For us, it is a privilege to receive Jorge Jiménez, one of the most outstanding artists on the current international scene.” The bookstore, founded in 2009, has become a national reference point for specialized comic book retail, and González also highlighted the high level of participation and interest generated by the event among the local Zaragoza community.

The success of Jiménez and colorist Tomeu Morey, both hailing from Spain (Granada and Mallorca respectively), alongside writer Matt Fraction, signifies a noteworthy moment for international contributions to the iconic Batman franchise. The team’s work has demonstrably resonated with audiences, achieving a level of sales and critical attention that has, as one report put it, “gotten out of hand.”
