Updated May 29, 2025
the Google Pixel 9a arrives with a fresh design and a focus on delivering value. This mid-range Android phone sports a large battery and a competitive feature set, making it a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers. But does the Google Pixel 9a live up to the hype?
Google has moved away from the conventional camera bar seen on previous Pixel models. The Pixel 9a now features a nearly flat back with a subtle camera bump. This design choice allows the phone to sit steadily on flat surfaces, though some users may miss the camera bar’s ergonomic support.
The phone’s design is both simple and effective, featuring a matte metal frame and a frosted matte finish on the plastic back. The Pixel 9a measures 154.7mm x 73.3mm x 8.9mm and weighs 185.9 grams, making it only slightly larger than the Pixel 9 and 9 pro.
The Pixel 9a boasts a 6.3-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate (defaulting to 60Hz) and FullHD+ resolution. While it shares display features with the Pixel 9, it uses Gorilla Glass 3 for protection, while the higher-end models use the more durable Victus 2. The phone also features IP68-rated water and dust protection.
Running Android 15 out of the box, the Pixel 9a receives monthly security updates and feature drops. Google promises seven years of both security and feature updates for this device.
