Battle-Tested: 10 Unmissable Reasons to Watch War Movies
Why I’m Drawn to War Movies
Suddenly, I found myself wondering, “How did I end up only watching war movies?” I’m not a fan of movies, and I don’t watch that many, but sometimes when I choose a movie on OTT, I find myself collecting all the war movies.
There was a time when I didn’t watch war movies because they were too cruel and tragic. But now that I’m in my 30s, I’m sad that there aren’t any war movies. I’ve never been in the military, and I don’t know anything about guns, cannons, warships, or fighter planes. I don’t particularly like action movies, and it’s been a while since I’ve seen a hero movie.
However, I guess there are two reasons why I became interested in war movies. First, I admire protagonists who are active in battlefields that could actually happen or are based on true stories. Second, the destructive instinct or stimulant within me.
The second reason was something I hadn’t even thought of, but one day a friend who knew I liked war movies asked me if I wanted to smash things up, and I realized that I really did.
The first reason I watched a war movie was probably closer to the second reason. At that time, I was deeply depressed and was looking for something to change my mood. Then, after watching a war movie, I suddenly felt emotionally alive. It may sound strange to feel alive while watching a movie where people are flying and blood is gushing, but if you think about how depression makes the world colorless… I hope you understand.
Of course, when the movie ended and all the sound of the movie died down, I felt even more suffocated by the darkness and silence around me, but apart from that, I became even more drawn to war movies.
However, there were not many war movies of a quality that I was satisfied with, and so my inner instinct for destruction that sought stimulation was forcibly stopped. From then on, I started to only watch movies that fit the first reason, even if they were not war movies. War, or something (real or realistic) that is pushed to the limit In this situation, the main characters are forced to Achieve thoseIt was enough to captivate me, a listless person. Sometimes, I felt bitter at the huge gap between me and the main characters, but I also thought that maybe one day, I too could grow old like that.
When someone asks me what genre of movies I like, I feel a little awkward saying that I like science fiction and war movies, but that’s my firm preference, so what can I do? But sometimes I watch romance and comedy movies. I also watch action movies. I like horror movies sometimes, but I don’t really like thrillers that make me feel dirty after watching them.
Fortunately, I am now free from the lethargy and depression that comes from the futility and stress of life. Destructive thoughts as well. However, sometimes when life is boring and I want to recharge my dopamine, I look for a movie, but now it feels difficult to focus on watching a 2-hour movie. So, the other stimulant I have found is a horror movie. However, I don’t want it to have a big impact on my daily life, so I haven’t watched a single realistically expressed 2-hour horror movie, and I look for less scary horror game videos, late-night ghost stories, etc. It’s good because it’s short and light, and I don’t have to get immersed in serious content. I think this is also a change that fits the current trend.
Actually, it would be best to cut off all of these stimulating things. I was once addicted to shorts, so I completely blocked YouTube’s recommendation function, and it was a very good choice. Of course, that doesn’t mean I don’t watch them at all, and I still search for them, but I still have a choice. I want to do something useful and fun during that time. I don’t know what it is, but…
