Following an unexpected delay in January, Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios have released the roadmap and gameplay trailer for Battlefield 6 Season 2. The season will unfold in three phases – Extreme Measures, Nightfall, and Hunter/Prey – beginning with the launch of Extreme Measures on .
The trailer showcases the new map, Contaminated, set in forest-covered mountains. Gameplay footage reveals the introduction of the AH-6 Little Bird helicopter and a new “psychoactive smoke” mechanic. The map supports all combat sizes and features partially destructible tunnels, offering new tactical opportunities for infantry and vehicle engagements. Alongside standard multiplayer modes, Season 2 will introduce a limited-time mode called VL-7 Strike, where players battle while navigating the effects of the psychoactive smoke.
Extreme Measures, the first phase, will deliver Contaminated, the Little Bird, the VL-7 smoke, and a suite of new weapons including the VCR-2 Assault Rifle, M121 A2 Light Machine Gun, and GRT-CPS Marksman Rifle. Two new gadgets are also slated for release: the 9K38 IGLA Active Locking Air-Defense Launcher and the HTI-MK2 Hardware Suppression System.
Phase two, Nightfall, launching on , addresses a long-standing community request: night gameplay. This will be implemented through the new close-quarters infantry map, Hagental Base, and a dedicated Nightfall event. However, the implementation is limited to this event and map, meaning players won’t be able to experience nighttime battles across all of Battlefield 6’s environments. Nightfall also introduces the Defense Testing Complex 3 point of interest to Fort Lyndon, alongside the dirt bike, CZ3A1 submachine gun, and VZ.61 sidearm.
The final phase, Hunter/Prey, is scheduled for . Unlike the previous phases, Hunter/Prey will not introduce a new map. Instead, it will feature the Operation Augur limited-time mode, updates to the Portal platform, a new bonus path for the battle pass, the LTV vehicle, and the Ripper 14” machete.
Alongside the seasonal content, Battlefield Studios is releasing update 1.2.1.0, which promises “hundreds of gameplay improvements, fixes, and individual updates.” The update includes balance adjustments for weapons, with a focus on “widespread recoil tuning across automatic weapons.” Detailed patch notes are expected to be released prior to the launch of Extreme Measures.
Battlefield 6 experienced a successful launch in , but has recently faced community criticism. Players have review-bombed the REDSEC battle royale mode and requested larger maps, raising concerns about the pace of post-launch content. The delay of Season 2 in January further fueled these concerns. Whether the content revealed today will address these criticisms remains to be seen.
The studio is also addressing adjustments to controversial cosmetics, indicating a responsiveness to player feedback. The release of Season 2 represents a critical juncture for Battlefield 6, as the developers aim to re-engage the community and build upon the game’s foundation.
