Updated June 26, 2025
LONGMEADOW – Bay Path University is expanding its healthcare offerings with the launch of an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program and a direct-entry Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program. These initiatives aim to alleviate the national nursing shortage and provide diverse pathways into the nursing profession.
The ASN program offers a flexible route for aspiring nurses to acquire the necessary knowledge, clinical experience, and credentials to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. The program typically takes two years to complete.Graduates with a non-nursing bachelor’s degree can seamlessly transition into Bay Path’s RN to BSN program, and subsequently pursue an MSN or a doctorate-level nurse practitioner role.
The curriculum blends online academics with hands-on experience. Students without prior college experience begin with two terms of online coursework, followed by four terms of in-person clinical labs and practicums combined with online learning. The program has no prerequisites, with all competencies integrated into the curriculum.
Linda Adams-Wendling, chief nurse administrator and director of nursing Education at Bay Path, emphasized the critical need for registered nurses. “the demand for registered nurses has never been greater,” Adams-Wendling saeid. “This is a new way to address that demand, strengthen the pipeline, and provide opportunities for high-growth careers.” She added that the ASN program is designed to accommodate a wide range of students, from recent high school graduates to individuals seeking a career change.
the direct-entry MSN program is tailored for students holding bachelor’s degrees in fields other than nursing. This accelerated pathway allows graduates to earn both RN licensure and an MSN degree, preparing them for leadership and teaching positions within the healthcare sector.
Applications for both the ASN and direct-entry MSN programs are currently being accepted, with classes scheduled to begin in September.
What’s next
Bay Path University anticipates strong interest in both programs and expects graduates to quickly fill critical nursing roles in the region and beyond, helping to address the ongoing nursing shortage.
