Champions League Quarterfinal Result
The climb in the rankings coincides with Bayern Munich’s victory over Real Madrid in the Champions League quarterfinals. On April 15, 2026, Bayern Munich won the second leg of the matchup 4-3 at the Allianz Arena.
Bayern Munich entered the second leg with a 2-1 lead from the first meeting. The return leg began with an immediate goal from Real Madrid’s Arda Güler in the first minute, following a giveaway by Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
Bayern responded five minutes later when Aleksandar Pavlović scored via a header from a corner kick. The match remained high-scoring throughout the first half, with Arda Güler scoring again in the 29th minute from a free kick.
Harry Kane scored his 50th goal of the season nine minutes after Güler’s second goal. Shortly before the halftime whistle, Kylian Mbappé scored his 70th career Champions League goal in his 98th game, bringing the aggregate score to 4-4.
The second half saw a turning point when Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga received a second yellow card for time wasting, leaving the Spanish side with 10 men.
Luis Díaz broke the aggregate deadlock in the 89th minute with a curling shot from outside the penalty area. Michael Olise added another curling goal five minutes later to secure the victory and ensure Real Madrid’s exit from the competition.
UEFA Coefficient and Standings
The UEFA Club Coefficient rankings are based on the results achieved by clubs in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Conference League over a five-year period.

By eliminating Real Madrid and advancing to the semifinals, Bayern Munich earned the necessary points to surpass the Madrid club and become the top-ranked team in the system.
Other Semifinal Developments
Alongside Bayern Munich, Arsenal has also advanced to the Champions League semifinals. Arsenal secured their place following a 0-0 draw against Sporting in their second leg.
Arsenal progressed with a 1-0 aggregate victory, courtesy of a 91st-minute goal scored by Kai Havertz in Lisbon during the previous match. This result maintains Arsenal’s untarnished record for the season at 10-0-2.
This marks the second consecutive season that Arsenal has reached the semifinals of the competition, which is a first in the club’s history.
Arsenal is scheduled to face Atlético Madrid in the semifinals in two weeks.
