SPRINGFIELD — The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) is exploring potential collaborations with Baystate Health after a recent meeting between MLSC president and CEO Dr. Kirk taylor and Baystate health executives. The discussion centered on Baystate Health’s ongoing research and its impact on the life sciences sector.
The MLSC, which has invested over $2.6 billion in Massachusetts since 2007, aims to spur medical advancements, boost science education, create research avenues, and expand the workforce through public-private partnerships. The organization is actively seeking new partners and opportunities for grants.
Baystate Health has previously benefited from MLSC grants, which supported the development of research facilities on Wason Avenue and the TechSpring space in downtown Springfield.
During the meeting, physicians from Baystate health’s Department of Healthcare Delivery and Population Sciences (DHDPS) presented updates on several projects. These included community-based research on parental mental health, the use of digital health and virtual reality to improve medication adherence for substance use, preventive cardiology interventions, efforts to increase lung cancer screening at community health centers, and the use of big data to improve population health and health equity. The presentations highlighted the growing role of healthcare delivery research in Western Massachusetts.
