BC Lions Announce 2026 Team Award Winners Led by Nathan Rourke

Quarterback Nathan Rourke anchors the BC Lions team award winners for the 2026 Canadian Football League season, earning selections as both Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Canadian, as voted on by local members of the Football Reporters of Canada and reported by the BC Lions.

The club selections set the stage for a revamped league-wide voting process. Under the updated format administered by the CFL, every player who received a team vote advances to a final ballot evaluated by 36 local FRC members and 20 national members, totaling 56 votes.

Rourke Leads Unanimous Selections In Vancouver

Rourke secured unanimous backing for his Most Outstanding Canadian nod following a productive 17-game campaign where he made 15 starts. The Victoria native completed 313 of 444 pass attempts for a 70.5 percent completion rate, racking up 4,614 yards and 24 touchdowns. Rourke also rushed for 356 yards and three scores on 31 carries, eclipsing the 300-yard passing mark 11 times this year and passing Joe Paopao, Jonathan Jennings, and Dave Dickenson into fifth place on the club’s all-time passing list with 15,788 yards, according to the BC Lions.

Darnell Sankey joined Rourke as a unanimous choice, taking the Most Outstanding Defensive Player honor after surpassing the 100-tackle mark. The BC Lions reported that Sankey became only the second player in CFL history after Willie Pless to reach that tackle total in three consecutive seasons, adding three sacks, one interception, a forced fumble, and 11 pass knockdowns through 17 games.

Kicker Sean Whyte earned unanimous selection as Most Outstanding Special Teams Player after converting 42 of 46 field goal attempts and 47 of 49 converts. The BC Lions noted that Whyte became just the third player in franchise history to score 1,000 points, joining Lui Passaglia and Paul McCallum, while capturing the team nomination for the fifth straight season.

Left tackle Kory Woodruff captured unanimous recognition as Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman after taking 994 total snaps across 17 contests. The BC Lions stated that Woodruff anchored a unit leading the CFL in net offense with 424.3 yards per game while drawing only three penalties all season.

Rookie linebacker Parker McKenna rounded out the unanimous picks, totaling 74 defensive tackles, four tackles for a loss, six special teams tackles, two forced fumbles, and three pass knockdowns over 17 games after winning a roster spot in his first training camp, per the BC Lions.
