Accusations Fly as Former Politician Alleges Affair, Challenges Business Tycoon to Public Oath
Bucharest, Romania – A firestorm of accusations erupted this week as Cristian Rizea, a controversial figure recently released from prison, publicly alleged a long-term affair between Gigi Becali, owner of FCSB football club, and Tania Budi. Rizea’s claims, made via TikTok and reported on August 20, 2025, are not new, but the current challenge issued to Becali has reignited the controversy.
From Prison to Public Accusation
Rizea, who served four and a half years for offenses including influence trafficking and money laundering, reignited the claims after his conditional release from prison in July 2025, following a sentence handed down by the Ilfov Tribunal. prior to his arrest,Rizea fled to the Republic of Moldova and was extradited back to Romania in 2023,at which time magistrates confiscated €300,000. He asserts he possesses recordings that implicate becali, alleging financial transactions related to the alleged affair.
Becali Denies Allegations, Dismisses Accuser
Gigi Becali vehemently denied the accusations in a statement to Romania TV, dismissing Rizea as untrustworthy.”That Rizea, a man’s monkey, knows that I do not know that Tania Budi… I did not see Tania budi, I saw her 23 years ago at a wedding in America, I have never seen her in my life,” becali stated, adding that his wife and daughters were amused by the claims, believing them to be false.
A Public Challenge and Past Allegations
Rizea has escalated the situation by challenging Becali to a public oath-taking ceremony. He proposes they both swear before God,in Becali’s still-under-construction church in Pipera,that the alleged affair never occurred,broadcasting the event live on TikTok. This isn’t the first time Rizea has made these accusations, having previously leveled similar claims years ago, all of which were denied by both Becali and Budi.
