Bedfellows and Betrayal: How the 4T Reformation Exposed the Dark Underbelly of the Judiciary
Morena’s Pragmatism in the Judiciary Reform
A Delicate Balance Between Progress and Controversy
Mexico City, September 10 – The Fourth Transformation has chosen pragmatism to achieve the Reform of the Judiciary through discussions, as the ruling party has acknowledged, with members of the opposition, some of whom are controversial characters.
The Role of Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez
In this Tuesday’s session, Senator Miguel Ángel Yunes Márquez asked for permission to be absent from his seat, and his father, Miguel Ángel Yunes Linares, took his place. When he took the floor in the session hall, he attacked Marko Cortés, the leader of the PAN, for threatening his son because of his opinion.
The PRI and PAN’s Denial of Pressure
The PRI and the PAN have denied pressure from the ruling party to approve the reform. In fact, at the beginning of the first session this Tuesday, Emecista Senator Clemente Castañeda denied the arrest of Barreda and his father, something that was denied in the same session.
“We are at a time when it seems that political parties are also starting to blur, they are starting to transfer characters to different parties, other parties that we would like to understand have a different formation, other bases, finally we are seeing what wins” says journalist Adriana Buentello.
The Concerns of the Journalists
Buentello agreed that Judicial Reform is an urgent matter, “but I believe that this particular reform brings a number of dangerous things that the next Government could face and that speaks or sees it from the left, not to try not to hit Sheinbaum, or hit the President, because I think we’ve also suddenly closed ourselves off to be a little more critical of what’s going on.”
“What I see happening is that pragmatism is also eating away in Morena in the sense that if reform was approved in this way,” he expressed. “At the moment what we are seeing is that there is evidence in some way of how this reform, this struggle, these marches are trying to be more political than getting to the bottom of the reform of the Judiciary in truth.”
The Importance of Authenticity
Journalist Daniela Barragán claimed that “there are times when defeat can be more authentic and better than victory with those kinds of details.”
“The left must return to that, also say ‘we are used to resistance, to victories that are won with a lot of sweat, with blood sometimes unfortunately in this country’, but yes, how to rethink that victory has not arrived at any cost, start saying ‘no, that’s not how politics should be,’ because that’s what PRI members taught us,” he said.
The Negotiations of Adán Augusto López Hernández
Meme Yamel proposed that we must look at the person who is conducting the negotiations: Adán Augusto López Hernández, the former Secretary of the Interior and today the leader of the Morena bench in the Senate.
“I think we know the scope of Adan Augusto’s negotiations, he knows how to get to the points, what are people’s weak points, where is that core point where they can bend and that is where he attacks,” he said.
The Results of the Decisions
In a second context, he revealed the results of the decisions of the PAN, the PRI and even the PRD. “The first result is the result of the PRD, when its only two senators, who arrive as the first minority, expire… since there is no longer a bench, since the PRD no longer exists, they join the Morena bench, Adán Augusto says once again that there was no negotiation but to thank (…) they had two commission presidencies so, you have another negotiation, another agreement whatever you want to call it.”
“Yunes is the result of the PAN, among many others, but Marko Cortés defended Yunes many times, defended him tooth and nail, despite the fact that even PAN members questioned Yunes, who saw Yunes as of the members of PAN Who They had done a lot of damage to the party, to the brand, etc., and Marco Cortés defended him, he defended him so much and Marcos’ commitment to the Yunes reached such a degree that in formula Yunes, the son and the father, that is, It is a formula where father and son are holder and substitute, that is, if today is Monday asking for a holiday, the one who takes the oath as his father is a Senator,” he expressed.
The Need for Criticism
Adriana Buentello added in this regard that we need to be much more critical of everything that happens and not forget the past of Adán Agusto López Hernández, who, she says, “continues to act in the same PRI logic.”
“He could have been a great operator, he could have been very useful and very useful to President López Obrador, but this is happening, that is, it has been proven, as we have already been seeing, let’s say with these steps that has been. take , that the amendment is approved with these absences or with these requests for a license, with these discussions through the dark,” he questioned. “It seems to me that the role that Morena ends up playing it very differently to what we have seen in the past and I think we have to try to be self-critical no matter how much we want to Reform the Judiciary.”
VERSUS is a program hosted by Adriana Buentello, Alina Duarte, Daniela Barragán, Perla Velázquez and Meme Yamel that compares the pros and cons, strengths and weaknesses in a documented review of the careers of two characters at the same time, be it from politics, from the world of business, the media or popular culture.
