Hormel Foods Corporation is voluntarily recalling approximately 256,185 pounds of dinty Moore beef stew after three consumers reported finding pieces of wood in the canned product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement.
The recall affects Dinty Moore Beef Stew in 20-ounce cans, packaged on Feb. 4, 2025, and shipped nationwide. Consumers can identify affected products by looking for the lot code “T02045,” establishment number “EST 199G,” and a “FEB 2028″ ”Best By” date.
FSIS advises consumers who have purchased the recalled Dinty Moore beef stew to either discard it or return it to the store for a refund. While there have been no confirmed reports of injuries related to the recalled canned beef stew, the agency urges caution.
Consuming wood fragments can pose risks, including damage to teeth and gums. Humans lack the necessary enzymes to digest wood, meaning ingested pieces will pass through the gastrointestinal tract largely unchanged.Larger or sharper pieces could perhaps cause injury or blockage, leading to infection. Medical attention should be sought if symptoms such as chest or abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, changes in bowel movements, or fever occur.
The beef stew recall notice did not specify the size of the wood fragments discovered.
