Behind Closed Doors: A Shocking Twist in the North Point Police Shooting Case
Tragedy Strikes in North Point: Man with Mental Illness Record Attacks Family Members
A devastating incident occurred in North Point, where a man with a history of mental illness attacked his mother and wife with a knife. The police responded to the scene and fatally shot the man. Neighbors who knew the family reported that they generally got along well, but the deceased had been experiencing mental disturbances recently, leading to the tragic events.
The unit where the incident took place showed signs of the violent attack, with blood stains at the door and used hemostatic gauze on the ground. The family of five, including the parents, two brothers, and the wife, lived together on the ground floor and rented out other rooms to tenants. One of the tenants was taken in for questioning by the police.
A neighbor who was familiar with the family described them as having lived together for decades and generally getting along well. However, on the night of the incident, they heard a loud argument and witnessed the younger brother attacking his mother.
Neighbor Lin Bo recounted the events of that night, “The quarrel lasted for several minutes, then it became quiet, and his mother ran away. His mother also told me to call the police for her. When the police came, they shouted loudly that there was a knife and scissors, and they shouted loudly to put down the knife. 3 or 4 times, I heard a gunshot. I was a little scared when I heard the gunfire. I don’t usually quarrel. I saw him in a trance these days. It’s nothing like that.”
The Eastern District Hospital reported that the deceased had been receiving treatment for his mental illness since 2017, with regular follow-up consultations and injections of antipsychotic drugs. His condition had been stable, and there was no record of violence. He had a follow-up consultation on July 19, and at the time, his condition was stable, and he was prescribed psychiatric drugs. He returned to the hospital on the previous Saturday to receive antipsychotic injections, and the medical staff assessed that his condition was stable.
Liang Xi, a member of the local Legislative Council, emphasized the importance of family members monitoring the condition of mentally ill patients and seeking help when necessary. He acknowledged that the medical system has limitations and cannot cover all mental patients, highlighting the need for families to take an active role in supporting their loved ones.
Legislative Council Member (Hong Kong Island East) Leung Hee also commented on the incident, stating that there is a shortage of medical manpower, particularly in the Eastern District, where there are only two outreach staff. He emphasized the need for non-profit organizations to provide support for non-serious cases, but acknowledged that their resources are limited.
Leung Hee expressed his intention to visit the family and provide all necessary assistance.
