China Disputes EU Investigation into Electric Car Subsidies
China has expressed strong disagreement with the European Union’s investigation into Chinese electric car subsidies, citing “unreasonable points and non-compliance” in the probe. According to a Ministry of Commerce spokesperson, this move is a defense practice of “unfair competition” disguised as “fair competition.”
The European Commission announced the final result of the investigation on Tuesday, which Beijing has refused to accept. In response, China has filed a lawsuit under the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) dispute settlement mechanism and will take all necessary measures to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.
China has noted that the European side is willing to continue price negotiations. Beijing supports resolving trade disputes through dialogue and is currently engaging in a new round of consultations with the EU’s technical teams. China hopes that the EU will cooperate constructively, adhering to the principles of pragmatism and balance, to reach a mutually acceptable solution as soon as possible and avoid escalating trade tensions.
