Located at the intersection of Heping East Road and Jinsheng North Road in Taipei City and near Dan Forest Park, “Peace Jinsheng Sky Bridge” is the filming location of classic film and television works such as “Eat, Drink, People”. and Woman”, “Long Live Love” and “One to One”, but it is in Taipei City. The government plans to carry out demolition work starting today (the 4th) based on its useful life, and it is expected that some people will “Peaceful New “Life Overpass” launched a petition to not only ignore pedestrian safety, but keep important urban landscape. When the construction company was going to block the overpass this morning, protesters hijacked it and there was tension for a while.

The Taipei City Government has dismantled overpasses in recent years which was expected to be demolished recently considering that the overpass was built 40 years ago and will be demolished as it reaches its useful life. However, local people believe that the overpass is already an important part of the local landscape, a common memory of the community’s residents, and a part of the citizens’ daily lives.

Today, the first day scheduled by the Beijing Municipal Government, the bridge maintenance team came to the overpass to hold a press conference and was carrying out preparatory work for demolition.

Lin Minjun, founder of “Protect the Peaceful New Life Bridge,” said in a press release that more than 1,500 people have signed a petition opposing the demolition. There are several A4 notices posted on the bridge pier 10 days ago on the plan to demolish the Heping Jinsheng overpass. After strong requests from the community, the first briefing session was held three nights before demolition (1st). People attending the meeting expected that the Taipei City New Engineering Office would explain the need to demolish the overpass and give an evaluation report. However, the New Engineering Office only explained the construction process during the briefing. The public’s curious question, “Why should the overpass be demolished?” But it did not provide any information or assessment, only that the overpass should be demolished in the interest of public transport policy and structural safety. After his 40 years of service life.

However, Lin Minjun released the overpass evaluation report conducted by the New Engineering Office last month, which showed that there are 13 overpasses in North City that are more than 40 years old and have been in use for 55 years. Why should the Heping Jinsheng overpass be demolished? The conflict in the new construction office is that many overpasses, including the Peace Jinsheng overpass, were expressly recommended to be retained for “local needs” or other reasons. Why is this month’s retention plan contradicted? Advice? Furthermore, the report by the inspection company in May this year only showed that the overpass decorative panels had corrosion and holes, and it was recommended to “repair” it within a year before the government decided to demolish it.

Yu Liuyo, director of the Next Generation Humanistic Transportation Promotion Association, said that the existence of the overpass is not mutually exclusive with policies that the city government wants to promote, such as the withdrawal of pedestrian crossings, pedestrian refuge islands and pedestrian-only hours. Pedestrians can cross the road through pedestrian crossings or overpasses. The city government noted that blind spots caused by bridge piers could be widened at street corners to expand the visual space. If a barrier-free lift is added to the overpass, it would give people with mobility impairments a safer option to cross the road. An important facility has been reduced to rubble while discussing the welfare of pedestrians.

In response, Jiang Wanan responded during a joint visit today that the city government will ask the transportation bureau, new construction office and other units to continue to communicate and consider security as a whole. Transportation Director Xie Minghong used the Xinyi-Keelung intersection with the same situation as an analogy and pointed out that after the overpass at this intersection was demolished, traffic accidents were significantly reduced because the location of the overpass piers would affect visibility. Therefore, the Transportation Bureau considered that Xinsheng Heping Intersection Demolishing the overpass would improve driving safety, he added, noting that Taipei City is already an aging society, and needs more pedestrian crossings.
