A street sign in east Belfast was damaged in what authorities are calling a hate-motivated act. The incident, which involved the removal of the irish language translation from a sign for Shandon Park, occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025.
Local Councillor Padraig Donnelly condemned the vandalism, calling it a ”disgraceful act… designed to stoke division and intolerance.” He emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of irish language speakers and dispelling any fears surrounding the language and equality.
