Belfast City Council Launches Belfast Stories Consultation

Date: 19 Nov 2024
Category: Belfast Stories

Belfast City Council has launched a Public Consultation for the Belfast Stories project. This initiative invites the public to explore initial designs and share their feedback.

Belfast Stories will be a major visitor attraction and creative hub located in the former Bank of Ireland building on Royal Avenue. The project aims to open by 2030 and spans a 5,000 square metre site.

The project expects to attract over 700,000 visitors annually and support up to 1,200 jobs during construction. It is part of the £1 billion Belfast Region City Deal (BRCD), which focuses on economic growth and improving underserved communities across Northern Ireland.

Currently, the project is at RIBA Stage 2, the concept design phase. After an initial consultation in 2022, Belfast City Council is hosting a second Public Consultation, which will run for 14 weeks until February 23, 2025.

Participants can learn more about the project’s vision to boost tourism and enhance Belfast’s international reputation. Lord Mayor Councillor Micky Murray believes Belfast Stories will foster community connections and allow locals to share their narratives.

The project will feature various storytelling methods, including interactive and audio-visual formats. Eimear Henry from Belfast Stories emphasizes that gathering authentic stories is essential to conveying the city’s unique identity.

The design team includes Oslo-based Snøhetta and Belfast-based TODD Architects, along with Ralph Appelbaum Associates for visitor experience design. Senior Architect Daniel Berlin notes that the feedback during this stage will shape future project developments.
