Belgium has launched Health PRO, an official online search engine designed to help patients locate available doctors, dentists, midwives, and other healthcare professionals across the country.

Accessing More Than 500,000 Active Healthcare Providers

Health PRO consolidates information from the Practice Register of FPS Public Health and INAMI databases into a single public interface. The platform covers more than 500,000 active healthcare professionals in Belgium, encompassing both practitioners with an INAMI number and those without one. This directory replaces the previous INAMI online directory, which was restricted solely to providers holding an INAMI number.

The search tool is free, accessible without registration, and operates on both computers and smartphones. Built-in geolocation displays professional addresses on an interactive map to help users identify nearby practices at a glance.

Searching by Profession, Location, and Specialty

The homepage of Health PRO features three primary search fields: the name of the practitioner, the specific profession, and the location, which is ideally entered via a postal code. Users searching for a gynecologist in a specific municipality can view all practicing specialists and their respective office addresses in the area.

An advanced search function allows patients to filter results for more complex healthcare needs or multidisciplinary care pathways. This enables individuals to target specific practices, such as locating a psychologist with training in perinatal care.

Health PRO Profiles List Professional Credentials and Fees

Each practitioner profile on Health PRO displays their official authorization to practice, known as a visa, along with their recognized profession and specialties. The profiles also list work addresses, contact details, INAMI numbers where applicable, qualification codes, and details regarding reimbursable services.

The tool also indicates whether a professional adheres to the official fee agreements set by INAMI. This factor directly affects out-of-pocket costs after health insurance reimbursement.

Future Updates to the National Directory

Authorities note that the current data represents the initial rollout of the platform. Additional practical features, including specific contact details for scheduling appointments, will be integrated into Health PRO over time.
