Bella Thorne to Write, Direct and Star in Spring Breakers 2

Bella Thorne has confirmed her role as writer, director, and star of “Spring Breakers 2,” a sequel to the 2013 film. The announcement came during an interview with Alex Cooper on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, where Thorne described how her involvement was secured after producers reviewed an early cut of her directorial debut, “Color Your Hurt.”

“The producers watched ‘Color Your Hurt,’ which is the movie that I just wrapped, an early cut of it. And they asked me to write something to see if they would like it,” Thorne said. “And they loved it. And now I’m writing and directing ‘Spring Breakers 2.’ Spring Break forever, bitch, let’s go!”

Thorne emphasized that the project will reunite her with key members of the original “Spring Breakers” team, though she stopped short of confirming whether any of the film’s original cast members, including Selena Gomez or Vanessa Hudgens, will return. “We’re working with the original team—is back. So, we’re really excited about that,” she said. When pressed about potential cast reunions, she added, “We are having fun. If you wanted to go to the theater and have fun, you’re going to have fun with this movie. That’s for sure. Yeah, it’s balls to the wall. That’s what everyone says when they read the script, balls to the wall.”

The original “Spring Breakers,” directed by Harmony Korine and released by A24, grossed $31.7 million on a $5 million budget. The film’s cast included James Franco, Selena Gomez, and Vanessa Hudgens, and its narrative was about spring break plans gone awry. Her directorial debut, “Color Your Hurt,” is set for an upcoming release. Regarding “Spring Breakers 2,” she described it as “so litty, litty McTitties.
