Dame Maggie Smith: A Legendary British Actress Passes Away

Renowned British actress Dame Maggie Smith, best known for her iconic role as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series, has passed away at the age of 89.

Toby Stephen and Chris Larkin, Dame Maggie Smith’s sons, have released a statement expressing their deep sadness over their mother’s passing. “We are heartbroken to announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith,” they said.

“She passed away peacefully in hospital early this morning, Friday 27 September. He was a person who led an intensely private life. He is with friends and family in his final moments. She has two children and five beloved grandchildren who are deeply saddened by the loss of their special mother and grandmother.”

Dame Maggie Smith’s children also extended their gratitude to the staff at Chelsea and Westminster hospitals for their care and support during her final days.

Dame Maggie Smith was a highly acclaimed British actress, born on December 28, 1934. Throughout her illustrious career, she appeared in numerous films, television dramas, and theater shows, earning two Oscars and three Golden Globes. She is widely regarded as one of England’s most successful actresses, with notable roles in the Harry Potter series and the Downton Abbey series, where she played Violet Crawley, Countess of Grantham.
