Former UFC fighter and wrestling champion Ben Askren is being evaluated for a lung transplant after contracting severe pneumonia, according to his wife, Amy. Askren, 40, is currently hospitalized in Wisconsin and on a ventilator as doctors assess his eligibility for the procedure.
Amy Askren revealed last week that her husband was in critical condition due to a staph infection that led to the severe pneumonia. On Tuesday, she shared an update via Facebook, stating, “I’m still praying for a miracle with his current lungs, but they are currently starting the evaluation process for a lung transplant.” She requested prayers for his healing and a smooth transplant process if needed, adding, “No one would take better care of that gift than Ben.”
