Ben Proud ‌Claims 50m‌ Freestyle Title ‍at ⁢Aquatics GB Championships

Ben ⁣Proud showcased his prowess in the pool by winning the men’s 50m freestyle at​ the Aquatics⁤ GB Swimming Championships in London. The Olympic silver medalist edged out ​fellow Briton Jacob Mills to ‌secure the 50m freestyle title.

Mills, ‍a ⁤17-year-old, initially‍ set the pace, qualifying fastest for the final with a time ‍of 21.96 seconds. Though, Proud stepped up​ his game‌ to defend his title, finishing ⁤in 21.67 seconds. Mills followed ​in 21.99, with⁣ Alexander ⁣Painter taking third place in 22.01. The Aquatics GB Championships highlighted both⁣ experienced athletes and rising stars.

Abbie Wood also made a splash,winning the women’s 200m individual‌ medley. Wood’s ‍personal best time of 2 minutes, ⁣08.85 seconds secured her the victory over Katie Shanahan, who finished in 2:09.88,and Leah Schlosshan,who clocked in at 2:13.14.

“I’m really pleased​ with that,” said Proud. “I ⁢got everything I wanted. Swimming under ‌pressure and it’s not ​often it comes from​ a 17-year-old.”

Despite finishing second, Mills acknowledged the experience gained from competing⁤ against Proud. He ‌noted that while a “few things went wrong,” the race provided⁣ “some things to work ‍on” for future competitions. The swimming championships provided valuable experience for younger competitors.

Wood said, “I was pleasantly surprised. With the girls ‍pushing me all the way,it was a really good⁢ race.”
