Rappaport sees ‘Desperate Housewives’ in ‘Garden Society’

Ben Rappaport, star of NBC’s “Grosse Pointe Garden Society,” acknowledges the comparisons between his new show and the popular series “Desperate Housewives.” The show centers on four suburban garden club members entangled in scandal, secrets, and a murder.
Rappaport said the comparison is an honor, noting the earlier show’s balance of light and dark themes. Fans online also noted the similarities after the show’s premiere in February.

Rappaport, a Juilliard graduate, has appeared in “Outsourced,” “The Good Wife,” “mr. Robot,” “Younger,” “Ozark,” “Inventing Anna,” and “For the People.” he also made his Broadway debut in the 2013 revival of “Picnic” and will reprise his role as Jack paar in “good Night, Oscar” in London’s west End.
Rappaport revealed that the cast of “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” was unaware of who the murder victim was until receiving the script for that episode. He said he enjoyed the surprise and the lively environment it created on set.
While “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” has not yet been renewed, co-creator Bill Krebs said there has been talk of moving the show to Peacock. Rappaport hopes for a second season to further explore his character, Brett, a divorced father of two.
Rappaport describes the show as a “perfect summer binge,” balancing suspense with heart and nuanced characters.
