Ben Stiller Donates Parents’ Comedy Archives to National Comedy Center
Ben Stiller is donating the extensive archives documenting the careers of his parents, comedy duo Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, to the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York.
The donation includes scripts, photographs, home movies, and other materials spanning their decades-long partnership.
A Legacy of Laughter
Jerry Stiller and anne Meara rose to prominence in the 1960s and 70s, becoming a beloved comedy team known for their improvisational style and relatable humor. They frequently appeared on television,including 36 appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show,a landmark achievement for a comedy act of their time,as detailed in a press release from the National Comedy Center.their act frequently enough involved Meara playing a straight-laced character reacting to Stiller’s boisterous and often exasperating persona.
Beyond television, Stiller and Meara performed extensively in nightclubs and theaters, honing their craft and building a dedicated following. They were pioneers in bringing improvisational comedy to a wider audience, influencing countless comedians who followed. Their ability to blend observational humor wiht character work set them apart.
The National Comedy Center: A Fitting Home
The National Comedy Center, wich opened in 2018, is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of comedy. It houses exhibits on a wide range of comedic artists, from Lucille Ball to George Carlin, and offers interactive experiences for visitors.
The Center was named one of the “10 Best New Museums in the U.S.” by USA Today in 2019, demonstrating its growing reputation as a leading institution for comedy scholarship and appreciation.

Timing with New Documentary
The announcement of the donation coincides with the upcoming Apple TV+ release of Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost, a documentary produced and narrated by Ben Stiller about his parents’ lives and careers. The documentary,set to premiere November 21,2023,offers an intimate look at their personal and professional relationship,drawing on archival footage and personal reflections.
According to Apple’s official press release, the film explores “the extraordinary life and enduring love of comedy legends Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara.”
