Ben Stiller’s involvement in the Apple TV+ series “Severance” extends beyond his roles as director and producer. While he remains largely behind the camera, Stiller nearly stepped in front of it during the show’s first season.
Stiller and Adam Scott discussed the show’s production, including the upcoming third season, in a recent interview with Variety. Stiller revealed that he considered playing a doctor in season one, but the idea ultimately didn’t feel right. He told the outlet, “We talked about it…but it just didn’t feel right.It’s great that I’m not in it. I’m very happy to not have my face on the billboard.” The hypothetical role was unrelated to the doctors featured in Lumon Industries‘ “Cold Harbor” project near the end of season two.
Stiller’s Voice Cameo as Kier Eagan
Even though Stiller opted out of an on-screen appearance, he lent his voice to the character of Kier Eagan in a brief cameo. In the first season, when Helly R., played by Britt Lower, completes her first Macrodata Refinement file, she receives an animated video featuring the voice of Stiller as the Lumon founder, thanking her for her work.
In the video, Kier says, “I knew you could do it, Helly R. Even in your darkest moments, I could see you arriving here.” He then adds, “I love you. But now I must away.”
The late Kier Eagan looms large over “Severance,” influencing Lumon industries’ experiments. Stiller’s vocal cameo adds another layer to the character’s mystique.
