Unveiled from the Presidential Tribune at the Benfica Campus, the initiative aims to connect universities, research centers, and businesses to advance global sports methodologies.
Rui Costa Outlines Vision for Benfica Institute for Sport Excellence
Club President Rui Costa introduced the project during an official presentation attended by club governing bodies, Benfica Campus leadership, and industry guests. According to SL Benfica, the president described the institute as an open platform for research and innovation that leverages decades of club data and operational experience.
We develop champions, but, above all, we develop people. Driven by this very vision, our academy stands out globally—relying not merely on its infrastructure or competitive triumphs, but on an ethos that considers knowledge, science, rigor, ethics, and passion essential to unlocking true talent.
According to SL Benfica, the institute will connect clubs, athletes, and coaches while fostering collaboration with prestigious international centers of knowledge.
Training Programs and Curriculum Structure
According to SL Benfica, the inaugural program will be the Fundamentals of Benfica Methodology course, aimed at early-career football coaches and industry newcomers. Students who complete the introductory curriculum successfully can proceed to the Applied Benfica Methodology course. SL Benfica reports that this advanced program will take place partly at the Benfica Campus and will eventually serve as a prerequisite for coaches seeking to join club projects across the more than 40 countries where Benfica operates. Specialized programs are scheduled to follow.
