Experienced All-Rounder Aims to Revitalize Notts’ T20 Performance
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club has announced the signing of experienced all-rounder Benny Howell ahead of the 2024 T20 Blast season. The move is seen as a key step in the club’s ambition to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in three seasons.
Head Coach Peter Moores believes Howell’s skillset and experience will be invaluable to the team. He highlighted Howell’s potential to replicate the impact of former Notts player Steven Mullaney, not only as a quality all-rounder but also as a crucial link between experienced and emerging players.
Howell’s Career Highlights and Recent Performance
Howell, 37, brings a wealth of experience to Trent Bridge, having spent 11 seasons with Gloucestershire before returning to Hampshire, his original county, in 2023. During his three seasons with Gloucestershire, the team reached Blast Finals Day twice, finishing as runners-up in the 2023 season ESPNcricinfo. He is known as a canny white-ball bowler and a useful lower-order batsman.
Moores emphasized Howell’s ability to bridge the gap between the club’s established players and its rising stars. “He feels like the perfect fit for where we are as a side right now, where we’re trying to bring together our more experienced players, and those that are still emerging,” Moores stated.
Player and coach Express Enthusiasm
Howell expressed his excitement about joining Nottinghamshire.”It’s a real honor to sign for Notts outlaws and have the prospect to play at a fantastic ground like Trent Bridge,” he said. “The team have such a brilliant history that they’ve built up over many seasons in the Blast, and I can’t wait to run out in front of a packed Trent Bridge and contribute to the team.”
He added that he believes his experience will be a valuable asset in building a triumphant team. “The blueprint to build another successful team is really clear, and with my experience, I feel I can bring plenty to the table over the next couple of seasons,” Howell explained.
Moores echoed this sentiment, stating, “We saw some really good examples of the progress that we’re making as a side last year, and bringing Benny in will only serve to continue that.”
