“Many Worlds Over” at Hamburger Bahnhof Museum
The solo exhibition, “Many Worlds Over,” by media artist Kim A-young, opened on March 28 at the Hamburger Bahnhof Museum in Berlin. The exhibition is notable for its comprehensive exploration of Kim’s artistic universe. Kim A-young, recognized internationally with accolades such as the LG Guggenheim Award (2025), the ACC Ramp Media Art Award (2024), and the ars Electronica Golden Nica Award (2023), intricately explores themes of capitalism, economics, and temporality through “speculative narratives” that blur the lines between humans, machines, and objects, envisioning possible futures through art.
First Korean Recipient of the LG Guggenheim Award

Born in Seoul, Kim studied visual design in Korea and photography and media art in the United Kingdom. She incorporates emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), and game engines into her work, ensuring they serve as more than mere tools.
Although there are no new works in this solo exhibition, it is the first solo exhibition at the Hamburger bahnhof museum, allowing a wider audience to appreciate her artistic world. This exhibition, jointly planned, features works connected to and expanded from the “Delivery Dancer” universe, developed since 2022, including “delivery Dancer’s Sphere,” “Delivery Dancer Simulation,” “Ghost Dancer,” “Quarantine Dancers,” and the recent piece, ”Delivery Dancer’s Sphere: 0°C Liver.”
Immersive narrative
The ”Delivery Dancer” project originated from the artist’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she felt confined in Seoul. This project constructs a virtual Seoul, incorporating existing economies and spaces.
The narrative centers on Aero-stasis Moore, a female rider working for the delivery platform “Delivery Dancer.” Aero-stasis Moore evolves into the top-level “Ghost Dancer,” navigating new spaces and expanding the world as she encounters various characters and situations. This exploration of virtual worlds, constructed with realism and speculation, is effectively realized within the exhibition space. Visitors can immerse themselves in these meticulously designed environments, experiencing a unique journey that mirrors their own explorations and encounters within the diverse world of “Delivery Dancer.”
Steel structures, reminiscent of construction sites, frame the spaces, physically expanding the narrative of the work.
Expansive and Diverse Worlds
The game simulation work, “Delivery Dancer Simulation,” allows visitors to explore a virtual Seoul, directly engaging with the main character as they seek out delivery locations. The game is designed so that players can observe each other but cannot interact, while installations outside the game provide realistic elements and exhibition space.
The internationally acclaimed three-channel video, “Delivery Dancer’s Sphere: 0°C Liver,” presented at the ACC exhibition, features three screens connected without architectural elements, symbolizing a futuristic port city. While the stunning effects are diminished, the overall immersion of the work is enhanced.
Kim A-young’s speculative and narrative worlds may seem to have high entry barriers. However, entering her world offers a unique experience that opens new dimensions and expands perspectives. Her diverse worlds, grounded in reality and expanded through artistic imagination, present new possibilities, prompting reflection on our current reality and future directions.
This exhibition is not only an artistic endeavor but also an opportunity to critically discuss the role of technology in contemporary art and its impact on society.
