DeAPlaneta and Alpha Group Relaunch Bernard Animated Series Globally

Barcelona’s DeAPlaneta Entertainment and China’s Alpha Group, a major licensing and merchandising company, have partnered to relaunch the Bernard animated series worldwide. The deal aims to leverage the existing popularity of the dialog-free show, known as Backkom in Asia, and introduce new content to its global fanbase. This collaboration will boost the Bernard brand and its animated series.
Bernard, a Spanish creation from 2006 about a bumbling polar bear, gained international recognition. DeAPlaneta Entertainment announced this new venture ahead of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The company acquired the Bernard IP in 2023 from BRB International, securing broadcast rights and operating licenses for several animated shows.
Alpha Group previously held chinese rights to Bernard, producing three films: Backkom Bear: Agent 008 (2017), Agent Backkom: kings Bear (2021), and Backkom Bear: Mars Mission (2024).under this new agreement,DeAPlaneta Entertainment will manage the distribution of new seasons and future Bernard productions outside of Asia,utilizing their expertise in children’s content.
DeAPlaneta will also handle the global distribution in Western countries for the new animated feature film, Bernard: Mars Mission, which had a successful run in Chinese theaters. Alpha Group’s other notable productions include Petronix Defenders, Super Wings, Katuri, and Quantum Heroes: Dinoster.
Bernard is currently broadcast in over 180 countries on channels like Disney Channel, Cartoon Network, and Netflix. The Bernard YouTube channel boasts 6.7 million subscribers, 2.648 billion views, and two million monthly viewers. The Bernard IP has also fostered licensing partnerships with major brands like Worldwide and Warner Bros.
