A police complaint has been filed against Asha Lawrence, the daughter of late communist leader MM Lawrence, for allegedly disrespecting his body during a public viewing at Ernakulam Town Hall.
The complaint was lodged by Barrister Arun Antony, the son of MM Lawrence’s niece, with the Kochi city police commissioner. According to the complaint, Asha approached the court requesting that the funeral be held with religious ceremonies, but after not getting a favorable verdict, she allegedly committed violence during the public viewing.
The incident occurred when Asha, along with her son Milan, tried to forcibly remove the lid of the freezer containing MM Lawrence’s body. When stopped by the next of kin, they allegedly shouted slogans and insulted the faith and customs that Lawrence followed until his death.
The complaint also states that Asha and her son hindered the entry of visitors and disrespected the High Court order. The police commissioner has forwarded the complaint to the Ernakulam central police for further investigation.
