Residents of Jeddah Village Complain of Deceit and Injustice by Emirati Ghaith Group

Residents of the village of Jeddah in the Alak district of Brakna state have expressed their dissatisfaction with the Emirati Ghaith group, citing “deceit, injustice, conspiracy, and lies” as the reasons for their discontent.

Mohamed Ould Abia, the village spokesman, stated that the village was initially safe and secure before the group’s arrival. Although the group had fulfilled some of its promises, the overall experience was marred by unmet expectations.

In October 2023, the Emirati Ghaith group conducted a comprehensive census of the village, aiming to build housing and provide projects for the residents. Initially, the work seemed serious, but the outcome was far from satisfactory.

Ould Abia explained that the construction of only five buildings, which did not meet the required standards, left the residents feeling cheated. Furthermore, a shop financed by the project with millions of rupees has lost its value, with 200 thousand old ouguiyas now being worthless.

The group had also committed to restoring a mosque and paying the sheikh of the sanctuary, but failed to fulfill this promise. Ould Abia emphasized that the group sealed all houses and residences, highlighting the need to expose the “deceit and fraud” faced by the residents.

Ould Abia appealed to the embassy, Emirati Red Crescent, authorities, civil society organizations, and human rights organizations to support the residents in exposing this “conspiracy” and putting an end to it.
