Beloved Cork Mother Betty Thompson Passes Away at 82
Farranree, Cork – Betty Thompson (née Ryan), a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on December 14th, 2024, at Rosenalee Care Center.She was 82.
Betty was a pillar of the Farranree community, known for her warm smile and unwavering love for her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Stephen, and their five children: Anthony, Seán, Breda, Gerard, and Kieran.”Mom was the heart of our family,” said Breda, her voice thick with emotion. “She always put everyone else’s needs before her own and had a way of making everyone feel loved and special.”
Betty’s legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She was a beloved grandmother to eight grandchildren, who will forever cherish the memories they made with their “Nana.”
Born to the late Thomas and Mary Ryan, Betty was a loving sister to Seán and Sheila, and was predeceased by her brother, Denis. she was also a devoted godmother to the late Mary O’Flynn (née O’Mahony).
Betty’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her son-in-law Andy, daughters-in-law Rachel and Patsy, Gerard’s partner Fiona, and a wide circle of relatives, neighbors, and friends.
Funeral arrangements
Betty will lie in repose at Crowley’s Funeral home in Ballincollig on Monday, December 16th, from 6:00 pm, with prayers at 7:00 pm. A Requiem Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday,December 17th,at the Church of the Resurrection in Farranree. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Blackrock.

Renowned for her warm smile and unwavering love for her family, she leaves behind a legacy of kindness and care. Her daughter, Breda, described her as “the heart of our family,” remembering her selfless nature and ability to make everyone around her feel loved.
Beyond her immediate family, Mrs. Thompson was a beloved grandmother to eight grandchildren who will forever hold dear the memories they made with their “Nana.”
