Bevan Brothers’ Sporting Success: A Family Affair
Updated June 03, 2025
For many parents, seeing one child excel in professional sports is a dream. For Lester Bevan, that dream is doubled. His sons, Taylor and Owen Bevan, are both making waves in their respective fields of boxing and Premier league football.
Taylor Bevan, 24, is an unbeaten professional boxer under contract with promoter Eddie Hearn. The 21-year-old Owen Bevan plays for AFC Bournemouth, with his contract running through 2028. Both athletes credit their father, Lester, a former boxer and current coach at Poseidon Amateur Boxing club in Hedge End, near Southampton, for their success.
Owen Bevan told BBC Sport that their motivation stems from their father, who encouraged them to pursue their dreams. He added that their father pushed them when they were younger, instilling a strong work ethic that has shaped their mentality.
Growing up in Hampshire, the brothers represent Wales due to their mother’s heritage. Owen has represented Wales at the youth level, making five appearances for the under-21 team. Taylor won a silver medal representing wales at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He joked that he inherited his attitude, not his boxing skills, from his father.
“he didn’t box at the highest level,” Taylor said. “I’ve seen a few videos of his fights and I can’t learn much from them, but he’s been in the ring and knows the feelings that come with it. He taught me the foundations though and emphasised fitness.”
Taylor added that his fitness and mental fortitude, instilled by his father, have allowed him to defeat opponents with more experience. The Bevan brothers’ journey highlights the impact of family support in achieving sporting success, with Lester Bevan’s guidance proving instrumental in their rise in boxing and Premier League football.
What’s next
Taylor Bevan aims to continue his undefeated streak in professional boxing, while Owen Bevan looks to solidify his place in the AFC Bournemouth squad, both driven by the values instilled by their father.
