Beware of Downtown Houston Parking Scams: Woman Shares Cautionary Tale
A woman in downtown Houston fell for a parking scam and wants to warn others. When she and her husband went out for dinner, they parked near Post Houston. A man in a vest approached them and asked for $20. Thinking he was the parking attendant, they gave him the money without hesitation.
Later, someone informed them they had been scammed. To raise awareness, the woman shared a video online, which gained nearly 200,000 views. Many viewers responded with similar stories.
Maria Irshad, Deputy Director of Park Houston, confirmed that parking scams are common in the area. She explained that there are no city parking attendants and that scammers often use fake QR codes at public and private lots. Downtown is a target due to required parking payments.
Even with updated signs showing how to pay, officials believe scammers will continue to return as long as people fall for these tricks. They are working with the Houston Police Department for better enforcement measures.
