Beware: Sneaky Online Gambling Scam Targets Unwary Players, LNB Issues Urgent Warning
Benin National Lottery Warns of Scammers on Social Media
Scammers posing as agents of the Benin National Lottery (LNB) are targeting populations through social media groups, deceiving them with false promises of winning numbers and jackpots.
The scammers create groups on WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, and Messenger, inviting people to join for a fee of 5,000 FCFA. Once the victims join, they are asked to play games with different amounts, with the promise of winning numbers. However, the scammers wait for the real Benin National Lottery to announce the results of the upcoming games, and then contact the victims, claiming they have won a jackpot.
To receive the supposed reward, the victims are asked to send a large amount of money to the scammers. However, once the money is sent, the scammers block the victims and cut all contact.
The Benin National Lottery has disclaimed any responsibility for these scams and is warning the population to be vigilant. The LNB advises people to be cautious when joining social media groups and to never send money to unknown individuals or groups.
By being aware of these scams, the population can protect themselves from falling victim to these cybercrimes.
