Beyond the Court: LeBron James’ Quest for a Lasting Legacy
Los Angeles Lakers guard LeBron James has accomplished a variety of great things throughout his long NBA career.
James further added to his legacy by winning an Olympic gold medal and Olympic MVP this summer, and he’s sure to set many more records in the NBA next season.
But maybe James wants people to know more about his activities outside of basketball.
James reportedly commented on his legacy, expressing his desire to be remembered for more than just his basketball achievements.
Sometimes I think about how I want to be remembered by people.
Hopefully it’s not just about the basketball game.
If people only talk about me because of the game of basketball, then I have not accomplished my mission.
What I do in my community, the way Savannah and I raised our kids, my relationship with my mother who raised me as a single mother, the friendships I have with my friends, supporting the people in my hometown — if those things weren’t being talked about in barber shops and in forums, I would feel like I had not accomplished my mission.
But it’s not over yet.
Although I am older from a basketball standpoint, I am still young in life.
James is also active off the basketball court, having founded the I Promise School in his hometown of Akron and running various businesses.
As a professional basketball player, most fans discuss his basketball legacy, but hopefully, when he retires, they’ll also discuss his non-basketball accomplishments, such as his philanthropic efforts and entrepreneurial ventures.
James’ commitment to giving back to his community and making a positive impact on the world is truly inspiring, and it’s essential to recognize and appreciate his efforts beyond his basketball career.
By acknowledging James’ achievements outside of basketball, we can gain a deeper understanding of his character and the values that drive him to make a difference in the world.
