Floods in Agricultural Areas: Ministry to Take Measures for Food Sovereignty
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Umm Bipatah, has announced that the losses in the agricultural field due to recent floods are limited, according to satellite data. The ministry will conduct field trips in consultation with sector actors to assess the situation and identify opportunities for growth.
The Minister emphasized that the sector will take measures to benefit from the floods that have reached agricultural areas for the first time. This move aims to strengthen the agricultural sector’s renaissance, which has seen significant progress in recent years, and ultimately achieve the President’s goal of food sovereignty.
Effective Emergency Measures
The government’s emergency measures to deal with the river floods in the states of Kedi Magha, Gorgol, Labrakna, and Trarza have been effective and successful, according to citizen testimony. The state was able to house 2,275 families in ten shelters with all necessary means of life in a short time.
The situation is improving, with residents in the states of Kedi Magha and Gorgol preparing to return to their original places. The Minister hopes that normal life will return to citizens in other states in the coming days. However, the floods are currently concentrated between Boki County and Lessiba 2 in Trararza.
Administrative Authorities and Army Response
The administrative authorities have contacted citizens who prefer to stay in their places, and the Minister praised the role played by the army in transporting affected people in boats to safe areas after roads were closed to cars.
