Space Colonization on the Horizon
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, speaking at Italian tech Week in Turin on October 27, 2023, predicted that millions of people will inhabit space “in the next couple of decades.” The Financial Times reported on the remarks, made during a conversation with John Elkann,a member of the Agnelli family.
Bezos, who also leads the space exploration company Blue Origin, envisions a future where individuals choose to live in space, with robots handling physically demanding tasks. He anticipates the development of large artificial intelligence data centers orbiting Earth to support these endeavors.
A “Good” Kind of Bubble?
Beyond space exploration, Bezos expressed optimism about the current surge in artificial intelligence investment. He characterized the AI boom as a beneficial “industrial” bubble, distinguishing it from possibly damaging “financial” bubbles. This suggests he believes the investment is driving tangible technological advancements rather than speculative asset inflation.
Bezos reportedly concluded his address with a statement of enthusiastic optimism: “There has never been a better time to be excited about the future.”
