VIENNA, Austria – The BFI Vienna is expanding its continuing education offerings with new focuses on sustainability, artificial intelligence, and exam preparation. The institute says the programs are designed to be practical and often allow for part-time study alongside professional commitments.

“Sustainability, digitalization, and artificial intelligence are changing almost all industries. Those with the right skills will gain a clear advantage,” says Franz-Josef Lackinger, Managing Director of BFI Vienna. “Our goal is to support people in acquiring these skills for the future in a practical, flexible, and part-time manner.”

Sustainability Focus: Green Skills and ESG Competencies

A central focus is on Green Skills and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) competencies. In collaboration with the Terra Institute Brixen, the offerings in sustainable business have been expanded. New additions include several e-learning courses, including “EmpCo-compliant sustainability communication without greenwashing,” “Social sustainability as a driver in companies,” and the executive course “ESG as a success factor.”

A certified course, “Corporate Sustainability and ESG Manager,” will also begin in March 2026. This part-time course covers topics from EU taxonomy to green finance and, according to BFI Vienna, qualifies participants for tasks in the sustainable transformation of companies.

AI and Digital Visibility: Automating Processes and Enhancing Online Presence

The portfolio in the field of artificial intelligence is also being expanded. New courses cover “AI from A to Z” and “AI Agents” for automating work processes. Seminars such as “From Google to ChatGPT: Getting Found in the Age of AI” address issues of digital visibility and online marketing.

The growing importance of AI is reshaping how businesses operate and how individuals need to prepare for the future of work. The BFI Vienna’s courses reflect a broader trend in education towards equipping professionals with the skills to leverage AI tools effectively and ethically.

Preparation for the MedAT: A New E-Learning Offering

Since the beginning of February 2026, BFI Vienna has offered an e-learning course to prepare for the MedAT (Medical Admission Test). The offering combines online learning content with monthly live sessions, where content is deepened and questions are answered by experts.

The MedAT is a notoriously challenging exam, and the BFI Vienna’s offering aims to provide structured preparation and expert guidance to prospective medical students. The combination of self-paced learning and live Q&A sessions is a common model for effective online test preparation.

Soft Skills Remain Crucial in the Age of Automation

The program also includes seminars on communication, employer branding, emotional intelligence, and entering new leadership roles. “Especially in times of AI and automation, interpersonal skills are more important than ever,” Lackinger says. “Good communication, leadership skills, and emotional intelligence determine how successful people and organizations are in the long term.”

This emphasis on soft skills is a notable counterpoint to the focus on technical AI training. It acknowledges that while AI can automate many tasks, human skills like communication, empathy, and leadership will remain essential for success in the workplace.

Flexible Learning Options

Many of the new offerings are designed as online or e-learning formats and, according to BFI Vienna, can be used independently of time and location. This flexibility is a key advantage for working professionals who need to upskill or reskill without disrupting their careers.

The University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna, with over 6,800 students and 11,558 graduates, is a leading institution in Austria, focusing on combining academic education with practical training. The institution offers 28 degree programs and executive education opportunities, partnering with 80 universities and 305 corporate partners. The BFI Wien’s expansion into these new areas of study reflects a commitment to adapting to the evolving needs of the Austrian labor market and providing relevant, up-to-date training for its students.

The BFI’s broader mission, as stated on its website, is to adapt its programs to include new job clusters by observing the labor market, cooperating with business and science sectors, and engaging in international exchange. This proactive approach positions the institution as a key player in preparing the Austrian workforce for the challenges and opportunities of the future.
