French biathlete Quentin fillon Maillet,a two-time world champion,caused a stir on social media recently when he was spotted practicing with swimming goggles. The International Biathlon Union shared a video of the athlete sporting the unusual eyewear, sparking curiosity among fans.
However, when race day arrived, the weather had cleared, and Fillon Maillet opted for traditional biathlon goggles. Starting with bib number 24, he left the swimming goggles behind for the competition.
The unpredictable weather conditions forced other athletes to prepare for the elements. Czech biathlete Vítězslav Hornig, one of four Czech competitors in the race, explained his strategy for dealing with the potential for rain.”It means we have to pack extra waterproof gear,” hornig told Czech Radio.”I’m thinking if the forecast holds, I’ll wear one suit for practice and then change into a dry one before the race. I think two or three pairs of gloves for practice and the race won’t be a problem.”
