San Siro Sale Hangs in Balance as Investigations Rock Milan’s Political Landscape
Milan,Italy – The long-awaited sale of the iconic san Siro stadium and it’s surrounding areas to football giants Inter and AC Milan is teetering on the brink of collapse, entangled in a web of ongoing investigations and political maneuvering. Mayor Giuseppe Sala has issued a stark ultimatum to the Democratic Party, demanding firm guarantees of support in the council to push through the resolution for the stadium’s sale, a deal that has been in protracted negotiations since 2019.
A Race Against Time and Legal Scrutiny
The current roadmap, established by the council itself, aimed for a resolution on the sale to be approved next week, followed by swift commission meetings and a final vote. The enterprising target was to conclude the operation by July 31st. Though, the Democratic Party, seemingly wary of the escalating legal scrutiny, is reportedly seeking to delay the process.
The urgency is amplified by a looming deadline: a protection constraint for the stadium’s second ring is set to take effect on November 10th.This constraint woudl prohibit any demolition, a key component of Inter and Milan’s ambitious project to construct a new, state-of-the-art facility. The clock is ticking, and the shadow of the prosecutor’s office looms large over the entire transaction.
Political Divisions and Mayor’s Firm Stance
Within the ruling majority, at least five directors have voiced opposition to the sale, a number that could possibly grow in the wake of recent judicial developments. Mayor Sala, however, has made his position unequivocally clear: he will not tolerate further delays and has vehemently rejected the accusations leveled against him by magistrates.
“We will proceed to produce an exhaustive memory with all objective documentary tests,” stated a representative, echoing the Mayor’s defense of the Municipality’s work. This firm stance comes as the investigations cast a pall over urban planning projects in Milan, with a recent video highlighting some of the projects under accusation.
Sala’s demand for unity and support from the democratic Party is crucial, especially given the party’s ancient division on the San Siro sale. The Mayor’s resolve underscores the high stakes involved, not just for the future of Milan’s beloved stadium but for the broader political stability of the city. The coming days will be critical in determining whether this landmark deal can overcome the legal and political hurdles that currently threaten its vrey existence.
