Joe Biden Turns 82: The Oldest President in U.S. History
On November 20, 2024, Joe Biden celebrated his 82nd birthday. This milestone makes him the oldest sitting president in U.S. history. Before Biden, Ronald Reagan held the record, completing his second term at age 77.
Biden did not have any public events scheduled for his birthday. After returning from a six-day trip to South America, he celebrated quietly with his family, according to the White House.
The president received warm wishes from family, friends, and former colleagues. This included congratulations from First Lady Jill Biden and former President Barack Obama on social media. Vice President Kamala Harris shared a birthday message on X, stating, “Happy birthday to my dear friend and our amazing president, Joe Biden.”
In a light-hearted take on aging, Biden often uses humor about his age. Last year, he posted on Instagram, joking about the number of candles on his cake during his 81st birthday celebration.
Biden faces questions about his age as he considers presidential campaigning for 2024. His recent debate performance against Donald Trump has led some voters to doubt his suitability for re-election. Heading into the future, Trump is projected to surpass Biden’s age record as he will be 82 years and seven months when he potentially takes over if elected in the next term.
Biden has stated that the best part of aging is wisdom.
