US President Joe Biden met with the public to mark the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 attacks, emphasizing bipartisan unity.
President Biden visited a fire station in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, and met with local residents. He exchanged hats with a supporter of former President Donald Trump, wearing a ‘Trump 2024’ hat on his head.
President Biden offered a resident wearing a ’Trump 2024′ hat, “I’ll give you a presidential hat,” and “it’s got the presidential insignia on it.” The resident asked to sign the hat, and President Biden agreed.
The resident reportedly asked President Biden, “Do you remember your name?” and forced the president to admit it, saying, “You are old and out of date.”
President Biden replied, ”I don’t remember his name,” and “I’m an old guy,” and signed his signature. He also said, “Seeing this man reminds me of a friend from my neighborhood when I was young.”
Afterwards, President Biden pointed to his ‘Trump 2024’ hat and asked, “Can I see the hat?” Some residents encouraged him by saying, “Put the hat on” and “Try it.” After a moment’s hesitation, President Biden put the hat on his head, and the residents cheered.
Photos and videos of President Biden wearing a Trump hat quickly spread on social media.
The White House explained that President Biden was emphasizing bipartisan unity to commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates wrote, ”I gave the hat to one fan, and the fan said in the same spirit that the president should also wear a Trump hat,” explaining the situation.
