Southern Metropolis Daily, September 23 (Reporter Tan Qi/Text Li Hao/Photo) “You can scan the code to add my WeChat.” At the sub-forum of the 14th China International Digital Publishing Expo (hereinafter referred to as “Digital Publishing Expo”), Carlo Carrenho, founder of the Brazilian and Spanish book trade media Publishing News PublishNews, showed his WeChat QR code after sharing; in the international cooperation exhibition area, the Korea Cultural Industry Promotion Agency formed a “China-Korea Cultural Industry Exchange Group” on the spot and invited participating guests to exchange ideas after the meeting.
From September 21st to 23rd, the Big Data Expo was held in Haikou. This year’s Big Data Expo highlighted the “internationalization” feature for the first time, and invited many international guests to exchange ideas, reflecting the characteristics of international exchange and cooperation to varying degrees. “Scanning code” exchanges allow more Chinese and foreign publishing units to use the Big Data Expo platform to encrypt business cooperation and exchanges and go overseas with “numbers”.
“As far as I know, the Big Data Expo is the first large-scale publishing forum in China that can gather so many Chinese and foreign publishing companies to carry out international exchanges and discussions.” OverDrive is the world’s largest digital library content provider. Zhang Liping, Northeast Asia Regional Manager and China General Manager of OverDrive, attended many sub-forums during the Big Data Expo, had in-depth exchanges with the heads of many publishing companies, and exchanged contact information.
The “international style” of the Big Data Expo is reflected in the forum exchanges.
This year, the organizing committee invited international guests from organizations such as the Japan Book Publishers Association, the Korea Cultural Industry Promotion Agency, and international companies such as Elsevier of the Netherlands and Springer of Germany to participate in special forums and on-site activities, and held a Sino-foreign digital publishing cooperation negotiation meeting. The content of the forum also focused on international exchanges and cooperation in the specialization and industrialization of digital publishing.
Nadim Sadek, founder and CEO of ShimrAI, shared the impact of artificial intelligence on book publishing; Fabrice Piot, editor-in-chief of French Book Weekly and Book Weekly, exchanged views with guests on the topic of “how the publishing industry can go global”; Kenichiro Yamamoto, president and representative director of Chuo Keiza Holdings Co., Ltd., plans to promote further cooperation between the Chinese and Japanese animation industries…
The “international style” of the Big Data Expo is also reflected in the exhibition area.
The Digital Publishing International Cooperation Exhibition Area was set up at the Big Data Expo, showcasing relevant content of international companies and international cooperation projects. The exhibition area invited international companies such as Elsevier, Cengage Publishing Group, De Gruyter, Scholastic Publishing Group, Editi Publishing Group, and the Italian Publishers Association to showcase new products, new technologies, and new applications for the digital development of publishing companies in countries and regions such as France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Malaysia. In terms of international cooperation projects, new projects and new achievements in international cooperation by domestic publishing units and digital publishing companies such as the Huajiao Chinese Smart Teaching Platform, the database cloud platform of Shanghai Jiaotong University Press, Xiamen Foreign Language Library Group Co., Ltd., the Commercial Press, China Intercontinental Publishing Group, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press, Science Press, and Beijing Language and Culture University Press were displayed.
At many forums of the Big Data Expo, experts were very concerned about the topic of “going overseas with numbers”, and were optimistic about the favorable policies of Hainan Free Trade Port, and promoting international cooperation in the digital publishing industry through Hainan. “We are committed to promoting the overseas expansion of China’s excellent online literature, and while spreading Chinese stories, we are also promoting China’s original industrial model to take root globally.” Wang Ruiting, vice president of public affairs of China Literature Group, said that Hainan, a fertile land for foreign cultural exchanges, is conducive to cultivating overseas online literature writers and original works to “go overseas”. Feng Yunsheng, secretary of the Party Committee and chairman of China Education Publishing and Media Group, is also planning to build the group’s digitalization and overseas business headquarters base in Sanya.
Hainan is also promoting the construction of “strengthening through numbers”. Through a series of measures such as building new digital infrastructure, expanding application scenarios, and cultivating featured industries, the digital economy continues to grow. Among them, Lingshui Li Autonomous County, based on the world’s first commercial submarine data center and international submarine cable landing station, Li’an International Education Innovation Experimental Zone and other resource advantages, vigorously develops the digital economy, and the digital cultural industry cluster has been initially formed. The application scenarios of short dramas, games, cross-border e-commerce, etc. are constantly expanding, steadily promoting the development of Hainan’s digital economy. In the future, we will make good use of the policy dividends of Hainan Free Trade Port, stimulate greater development potential, promote the formation of the cultural export industry, and create high-quality products with Chinese flavor and down-to-earth through digital innovative technologies, so that the world can better understand China.
