According to Bloomberg, Chinese authorities recently detained Eva Yin, chief commercial officer for the Greater China region of Chinese pharmaceutical company Beigene. He worked at AstraZeneca for more than 15 years and held positions such as general manager of the Chinese oncology division.
According to a quote from China’s Interface News, this investigation may be related to a health insurance fraud case involving AstraZeneca several years ago.
In 2022, China discovered a fraud organization suspected of embezzling medical insurance money by manipulating the genetic test results of tumor patients. Afterwards, 17 people involved, including AstraZeneca executives, were criminally punished.
Bloomberg commented on this investigation as a sign that China is expanding its investigation into AstraZeneca’s illegal activities.
