Bikepacking, the fusion of cycling and backpacking, offers⁤ a unique way⁢ to explore the world. It’s about minimalist travel, self-discovery, and ⁣reducing life to the essentials: sleeping, eating, and cycling. Here’s how to⁤ get started, with advice from experienced bikepackers.

Juliane Bötel: Embrace the‍ Unexpected

For Juliane Bötel, bikepacking is a routine⁢ escape. What started five years ago with a ⁣trip through Romania has become a passion.

Juliane has as tackled adventures like a⁤ ten-day solo trip through ‍Montenegro and Bosnia, the Atlas Mountain Race in Morocco, “The Rift” in Iceland, and⁣ the ⁣”Badlands Gravel” race in⁤ Spain. She embraces the unpredictable nature‍ of bikepacking: “Ich mag das Gefühl, ins Ungewisse zu fahren.

Juliane’s Tip ⁤for Beginners:

Her⁤ advice to beginners is to “einfach ‍mal machen.” she⁤ recommends a ⁢gravel ‍bike ⁣or a hardtail mountain bike, ⁣depending on the terrain. Essential gear includes a rain jacket, gaffer⁣ tape, and a‍ good pocket ‍knife.

Anke Eberhardt: Test Your Gear and Plan Shorter Routes

Anke Eberhardt, a journalist, discovered⁢ gravel biking in 2018. Her bikepacking experiences range from brewery ⁣tours to wild camping.

A subsequent trip through Franconia, with its brewery stops, highlighted the importance ‍of good ⁣company: “Wichtigstes Accessoire daher: die richtigen ⁣Leute!”

Anke’s⁤ Tip for Beginners:

Anke emphasizes ⁢that bikepacking is about the experience, not just the kilometers.

Martin Moschek: Pack Light and Embrace the Unexpected

With ⁢52 countries and over 90,000 ⁣kilometers under his belt, Martin ⁤Moschek⁣ is ⁤a seasoned bikepacker.”in ⁣dieser Zeit ist das Fahrrad vom einzig möglichen ⁢Transportmittel zu einer Leidenschaft geworden,” says Martin, who⁣ has been⁢ a passionate cyclist for over 30 years.

Martin values the adventure and unexpected⁢ encounters that bikepacking brings.⁢ “Beim Bikepacking begegnest du Menschen oder gerätst ⁢in Situationen, mit denen‍ du im Vorfeld nicht einmal ansatzweise gerechnet ⁣hast. Abenteuer ist,was unerwartet passiert,” he explains.

Martin’s Tip for beginners:

Martin advises questioning the necessity of every item you pack and avoiding overexertion. He emphasizes the importance of being open to unexpected challenges and experiences.

Your Guide to Bikepacking: Gear, Tips, and Mindset

Essential⁢ advice ⁤and equipment recommendations‍ for unforgettable bikepacking adventures.

What is Bikepacking?

bikepacking⁤ combines the freedom of cycling with the adventure of backpacking. It’s about exploring remote‍ landscapes, carrying your gear on your bike, and enjoying the journey.

The ⁣Right Mindset for Bikepacking

More than just physical endurance, bikepacking requires a specific mindset. It’s about embracing the unexpected and enjoying the journey, not just reaching the ⁢destination.

This highlights that bikepacking is about the ‍experiences gathered along the way,not just the distance covered or speed achieved.

Essential Bikepacking⁢ Gear

Choosing the right gear⁤ is crucial⁣ for a prosperous bikepacking trip. Here are some⁢ key items to‍ consider:

  • Gravel Bike: A sturdy and reliable bike is the foundation of your setup.
  • Bags: Revelate Designs and Ortlieb bags⁣ are popular choices ⁤for carrying gear.
  • GPS Device: Essential for navigation in remote areas.
  • Rain Jacket: To⁤ stay dry and agreeable in unpredictable weather.
