Billionaire Stuns Tennis World: US Open Champion Left in the Dust
US Open: New Champion to Emerge as Defending Champion Exits
The US Open will have a new champion as last year’s winner, Coco Gauff, bids farewell to the competition.
The final Grand Slam of the US Open season is slowly winding down, with the quarterfinals just around the corner. Unfortunately for Coco Gauff, she will not be part of the top eight. The defending champion was eliminated in the round of 16 by American Emma Navarro, who won 6:3, 4:6, 6:3.
This will be Emma Navarro’s second Grand Slam quarterfinal in her career, after the one she played at Wimbledon this year. Born in New York (age 23), she will play in her hometown against Paula Badosa from Spain to advance to the semi-finals.
Emma Navarro: A Tennis Star with a Billion-Dollar Background
Emma Navarro is one of the richest people in the world of tennis, thanks to her family’s wealth. She is the daughter of American tycoon Ben Navarro, who is worth an incredible 1.5 billion dollars, according to Forbes. This makes Emma, along with Jessica Pegula, the richest tennis player, even richer than the big three of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.
Ben Navarro made his fortune in a series of successful business ventures, including founding the “Sherman Group” in 1998, which specializes in credit cards. He also owns Credit One, which is said to have secured more than 18 million credit cards. Additionally, Ben spent about $300 million to buy the Western & Southern Open, a long-standing tournament that has been played in various formats in Cincinnati since 1899.
Emma has shown that she is very capable of earning money on her own. She is currently the 12th ranked tennis player in the world and has won around 2.5 million dollars from tennis prizes.
