Billionaire Xavier Niel Accepts Challenge from Gamer: Real-Life Showdown Over Lag
Xavier Niel is a billionaire internet service provider owner in France. He is known for his significant stake in Iliad SA, one of the country’s largest internet providers. Recently, an incident occurred involving an angry gamer.
On May 15, a user named JimmyBLLT, frustrated with lag while playing Call of Duty, tweeted at Niel, suggesting a one-on-one fight outside a Lidl store in Marseille. The tweet expressed his strong feelings about the internet service, saying, “Xavier Niel I hate you, I propose a 1v1 in front of the Lidl on rue Sainte in Marseille.”
Months later, on November 15, Niel took action. He showed up at the same Lidl in Marseille, tweeting, “I’m waiting for you.” Despite the gamer’s initial bravado, JimmyBLLT did not show up. He later apologized but claimed he had a stomach bug and headache, which prevented him from going.
Niel’s actions received attention as a unique response to online gaming frustration. The event highlighted the real-world consequences of online interactions.
