Billy Bob thornton is still processing the widespread acclaim for his show, “Landman.” Thornton, who stars as tommy Norris in the Paramount+ series, admitted he often avoids reading reviews, but his wife, Connie Angland, keeps him informed.
Speaking before a For Your Consideration screening in North Hollywood, thornton discussed the show’s rapid rise. “We thought it was going to be big,but like,in Middle America,” Thornton said. “We didn’t know it was going to be an international hit.We had no idea. So that’s always a nice surprise.”
“Landman,” penned and directed by Taylor Sheridan of “Yellowstone” fame, debuted in November. Thornton noted that while his team kept him updated on the show’s performance, his wife provided additional insights.
Thornton confessed his aversion to reading reviews himself. “I’m afraid to [look],” he said. “She’ll look at it, and say, ‘There’s this article out,’ I say, ‘Please don’t read it to me.’ She’ll go, ‘It’s all good.’ I say, ‘I still don’t want to hear it.’”
He elaborated on his reasons for avoiding reviews, explaining, “A lot of times, it’s something that might sound good to somebody else, but you read between the lines and you go, ‘I’m not sure. That might have been a kind of left-handed compliment.’”

The cast of “Landman” also includes Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, and Andy Garcia. Thornton mentioned that Sheridan involved him in the casting process. While Sheridan ultimately made the final decisions, Thornton helped bring Mark Collie on board as Sheriff Walt Joeberg.
Working alongside seasoned actors like Moore and Garcia enhanced the experience, Thornton said.He noted that he has known Garcia for years, tho “Landman” marks their first collaboration. He and Moore previously shared scenes in “Indecent Proposal” over three decades ago.
Garcia described the atmosphere on set as familial, while Lofland praised Thornton for creating a relaxed surroundings. Lofland added that the cast frequently socializes off-screen, strengthening their bond.
With filming for the second season underway and Sam Elliott joining the cast, Thornton announced that Season 2 of “landman” is slated for a November release.
“Looks like it’s going to be a Scorpio!” he quipped.
