Billy Twelvetrees Returns to Rugby, Joins Worcester Warriors as Player-Coach
Billy Twelvetrees, the former England back, is making a comeback to professional rugby. He has signed with Worcester Warriors as a player-coach, marking a significant addition to the team as they prepare to return to the sport after a period of administration.
Twelvetrees, 36, brings a wealth of experience to the Warriors.He earned 22 caps for England and also represented the British and Irish Lions. He had initially retired from playing to focus on coaching with Hartpury.
“Joining worcester Warriors as a player-coach is a fantastic possibility,” Twelvetrees said. “I’m excited to be contributing both on and off the field, helping to develop talent and bring real energy to the squad. It’s a challenge I’m ready for and I can’t wait to get started.”
His career began with Bedford Blues before he moved to Leicester Tigers in 2009, securing a premiership title in his first season. In 2012, he joined Gloucester, where he played 273 games over 11 years.
The move also reunites Twelvetrees with Matt Everard, his former Leicester Tigers teammate, who was appointed head coach of the Warriors in may. Everard spoke highly of Twelvetrees, emphasizing his positive influence and strong work ethic.
